Rincon de Almócita

Almocita

Rincon de Almócita

Almócita is one of the prettiest little villages in La Alpujarra Almeriense and has a special ambience. We visit it regularly. The village has many attractive corners and narrow cobbled streets lined with pretty cottages which make interesting subjects to paint. I captured this cottage door with flower pots in watercolour. I particularly liked the light and shadows in this composition.

The image size is 380mm x 280mm.
The original painting is for sale for 200 Euros.
PRINTS. Superb quality, limited edition (1-100) signed prints on Canson Infinity Arches Aquarelle paper, 310gm, are available for same size 50 euros. They can be purchased direct from me.

The Alhambra from the Albaicin

Alhambra

The Alhambra from the Albaicin

From the little squares of the old Moorish quarter of Granada, the Albaicin there are excellent views of the Alhambra on the opposite hillside. This is the little Placeta de Carvajales which I came across on my visit to the city a month ago. I liked the light and fresh greens of early summer and the way the trees framed the castle.

The medium is watercolour on Arches 300gm paper.

Carrera Del Darro, Granada

Darro

Carrera Del Darro, Granada

This is the first painting I have completed for several months. I was suffering from arthritis in my finger joints earlier this year which made painting painful. This has eased with the onset of warm weather and I recently visited Granada for a few days to get some fresh inspiration.

I love this narrow, cobbled street that runs alongside the River Darro below the old Moorish quarter, the Albaicin. In early summer the trees are full of fresh, green foliage and the sunlight through them casts dappled shadows.

The medium is watercolour on Arches 300gm paper.

The image size is 350mm x 250mm.

Pepe the donkey was grazing in a lane near my home when a black and white cat came out of a farm gate and approached him. They appeared to be friends as they touched noses and followed each other around. I thought they would make a charming painting. I first decided to capture them in watercolour but changed my mind as I think pastel works better here.

The medium is pastel on Sennelier pastel card.

The image size is 450mm x 300.
The original painting is for sale for 200 Euros.

Pepé The Donkey

Pepe

Pepé, the donkey

Another animal painting but this time I have used pastel which is my favourite medium for human portraits. I often come across Pepé, a six month old donkey, when I pass his yard and stable on one of my regular walks. I took to him the first time I saw him and thought he would make a lovely subject to draw. The last time I encountered him he and his mother had been allowed out and were grazing in the lane along which I was walking so I was able to get close to and speak to him which was more difficult when he was behind the fence in his corral.

The medium is pastel

The image size is 440mm x 320mm.
The original painting is for sale for 200 Euros.

Calle Fuente, Alhabia

Calle-Fuente-Alhabia

Calle Fuente, Alhabia

This is the only watercolour I have managed to paint during the last six weeks. This is the street through which you enter my little town of Alhabia and it leads into the main square, Plaza de la Constitución, which is dominated by the church. Like many of the little towns of La Alpujarra Almeriense, the main streets and squares are lined by fine buildings dating from a more prosperous age when oranges, grapes, olive oil, ceramics and mining brought wealth to the region. I found this a very difficult subject. Getting the perspective right was not easy and it was difficult to judge how much detail to include as I did not want to overwork the painting. I scrapped my first two attempts but finally produced this finished watercolour.

The image size is 350mm x 250mm.
The original painting is for sale for 200 euros.
PRINTS. Superb quality, limited edition (1-100) signed prints on Canson Infinity Arches Aquarelle paper, 310gm, are available for same size 35 euros and A4 20 euros. They can be purchased direct from me.
