Calle Victoria, Granada

One of my favourite scenes in Granada. Calle Victoria is a street in the old Moorish quarter, the Albaicin. From here there are great views looking across to the magnificent Alhambra and the lovely old buildings in the street are a pleasure to paint. The fresh, spring colours of the trees add life to the scene. The medium is watercolour.

I have painted the fishing boats at San Miguel de Cabo de Gata before but on my last visit I was fascinated by the colourful paraphernalia around the fishermen’s huts on the beach which I found interesting to draw and paint. The medium is watercolour.

The Church by Las Salinas

Church by Las Salinas

The iconic church, La Iglesia de las salinas was restored last year. The church stands between the beach and the salt flats at La Almadraba de Monteleva in the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata. Although the church has been restored some of the cottages, sheds and boats need a bit of care and attention. The combination makes an interesting subject to paint. The medium here is watercolour.

Flamenco in oils

Flamenco

I rarely paint in oils and certainly I have never before painted flamenco in this medium. I used quite a bit of artistic licence to create this work. I wanted to capture the movement and atmosphere of Flamenco dancing so I tried not to overwork the painting

Guajar Alto

El Fuerte

As you may know I fractured my arm last week when I fell walking in the countryside. As a result I will not be able to do much painting for a while. Five years ago we lived above a mountain village, Guajar Alto in Granada. I have just posted some of the pastel paintings I did then on http://margaretmerry.wordpress.com/2013/02/22/guajar-alto/. The scenery around are home was fantastic. Although many of the paintings have been sold i still have a few and all are available as prints. Here is the mountain, El Fuerte from our land.
