Last week I visited Granada as it would be the last opportunity to paint scenes from the City until September. It is too hot to visit Granada in July and August but also the white, hazy light of high summer is not ideal for painting. In June though the light can be clear and intense and the colours in the city very rich, particularly the greens of the city’s trees. I looked for different compositions from the usual views so I strolled up the Sacromonte hill, the old gypsy quarter adjacent to the Albaicin, and found this perfect composition of Calle Enmedio Alta with the towers of the Alhambra behind.
